August Spa and Zandvoort Report

Our biggest event of the year took place this week with a double header at Spa Francorchamps and a one day event at Zandvoort. After the many months of preparation and due the hard work of all our fantastic staff the event can be deemed a great success (despite the best efforts of a couple of budget airlines and a rather busy paddock after the Spa 24 hour race!).

On arrival as Spa at 7am on Monday morning many of the race teams were still packing away after the 24 hour race that had finished the previous afternoon. This caused a slight logistical headache to start with, but meant we could relocate to the F1 paddock with the better garage facilities. Due to the quick work of the BaT team we only lost 30 minutes of track time and were able to gain this back at the end of the day.

By lunchtime on the first day the sun was out and temperatures rising and this was the story for both days. In fact it was so hot we all had to take turns on pit lane to make sure our newest member of staff Amanda (Miss Black!) didn't fry in the heat. Track driving standards were excellent with only a handful of complaints our chief instructors Sarah Reader and Stuart Jones had to deal with. By the end of Tuesday's track day everybody was delighted with the amount and quality of track time with many of the Caterham hirers asking where they could sign up for next year. A tired BaT team then returned to our self catering accommodation for a well earned barbeque.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't as kind on Wednesday morning and the journey to Zandvoort was very wet. This scuppered my day off plans for lunch and cocktails on the beach! Luckily the sun shined until 5.15pm on Thursday and another fantastic track day was had by all. With not a single stoppage all day it gave many first timers at Zandvoort the opportunity to sample what this excellent circuit has to offer, with some even preferring it to Spa!

For those of you wanting details of next year's trip, dates will be available by the end of the year and if you just can't wait until next year there are still early booking discounts available for Novembers trip.
