August Track Day ReportFor what is usually a steady month in the track day/motorsport world it has been anything but during August. The end of the month was certainly a busy one here at BookaTrack, with the team covering some serous miles in just a few days.
After a trip down to Castle Combe for some of the BaT team earlier in the week, the action resumed on Thursday 21st August with a day on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. As we set up camp in The Wing paddock the stage was set for a busy day. With a fair amount of new drivers to the circuit a lengthy briefing was needed before drivers lined the pitlane ready for sighting laps.
Before long the day had turned to open pitlane and I was kept nice and busy at pit exit, whilst trying to keep myself in the sunshine. It was a nice sunny day but the wind in the pitlane was rather chilly at times, and despite the impressive look of The Wing building it does cast quite a sizeable shadow.
As we settled into the afternoon session we were pleased not to have seen the red flag yet, however with just an hour and half to go the red flag made its sole appearance of the day when a BMW parted ways with its engine in fairly spectacular fashion, causing an immediate stoppage. After a speedy clean up process from circuit officials the day soon resumed.
As the 5pm finish line arrived it was time for a quick tidy up from the BaT team before heading back out on the road.
The next stop on the agenda was Anglesey (Friday 22nd August), however before that we still had a long night ahead of us, starting with a stop at the workshop at Donington Park. A quick bite to eat meant the lads were refuelled as they repaired a couple of cars and reloaded the truck with a new batch for Anglesey the following day.
By 10pm we were ready for the drive to North Wales, as we piled into the BaT pick-up, complete with trailer and Caterhams in tow. A 1am arrival at the Travelodge meant we were more than ready for some sleep. Just a few hours later we were back up and on the road again to complete the journey to the Anglesey circuit.
As the boys began their prep work on our Caterhams for the day, Jonny, Sarah and myself labelled up the garages ready for the drivers' arrival. A quick bite to eat in the diner and we were fuelled and ready for sign on as the masses began to arrive.
It was another breezy day on the cliffs overlooking the Irish Sea, but as the sun shone down we were lucky to enjoy another pleasant day. A rather large black cloud threatened us early afternoon, but luckily carried on its way to leave us nice and dry.
By 5pm it was time for the final chequered flag of another day. Slightly more windswept this time, it was all hands on deck as we packed up ready to head back to Donington Park. After a late arrival at Donington it was time to drop things off then head off to catch up on some sleep.
After a day off on Saturday, Sunday night saw some of the BaT team return to action, starting off with another night in a Travelodge, this time in Darlington. We're currently doing a tour of the UK's finest Travelodge's, so feel free to ask for tips and reviews, we're fairly knowledgeable now.
By Bank Holiday Monday we were at Croft for another day of action. In terms of our cars we had four of our Caterhams out on hire, with the rest of the day filled with a mixture of road cars and Caterhams preparing for their upcoming race meeting.
Once again we escaped the rain to enjoy a dry, yet chilly, day. A quick job of packing everything away meant we were soon back on the road - this time to home.
September is also going to be a very busy month for us, but no doubt we'll have some fun along the way.
Hope to see you soon,
