Snetterton Race Report

On the back of our strongest race weekend so far, BaTSport headed back to the action on 1st-2nd September for the next round of the R300 Championship. After a day testing around the 200 circuit layout on Friday, Paul and David headed into qualifying on Saturday keen to repeat their unassailable performance from the Nurburgring.

The team were rewarded once again after the qualifying session, as Paul and David recorded the team’s best qualifying result so far. A top 10 start for Paul in seventh gave him a strong chance of banking some points, whilst David would line up 22nd for race one.

A challenging outing awaited both drivers on Saturday afternoon, as they slotted into their grid positions. Sadly Paul was forced into retirement with an engine misfire as he lapped the Snetterton circuit. David on the other hand was in the thick of the action until the very end. A determined drive saw David wrestle his way to 16th place, after many position changes on his way to the chequered flag.

A superb effort from the BaTSport team on Saturday evening saw Paul armed with a new engine for Sunday’s race, sans misfire. As Paul lined up at the back of the field a fierce contest was expected, whilst David started from his best position so far.

Another battle around the twists and turns of Snetterton saw David hold onto a strong 16th place, despite wrestling clutch issues as he toured the circuit. Determined to make ground from his back of the grid starting position, Paul soared to 10th place, after making up a total of 14 places. As the final few laps steered the field nearer to the flag, Paul had enjoyed a stint in eighth place, before he was unable to hold off the fierce challenge any longer.

So after scoring the team’s best qualifying results and a top ten finish for Paul in race two, Snetterton proved to be BaTSport’s best result so far. There is just one more round left to run of the 2012 Caterham R300 Championship, which will take place at Rockingham on 6th-7th October for the season finale. Unfortunately, Paul is unable to compete in the last round due to BTCC commitments, but that does mean BaT have a car spare if anyone wants to try R300 racing themselves.
