Four Events in Three CountriesOn Wednesday it was time to set off for the seaside town of Zandvoort just 16 miles from Amsterdam. The beach side circuit was hosting the European Caterham Festival which included rounds of both official Caterham Championships and Caterham Graduates Club Championships. Luckily we had managed to secure hire of the circuit for both Thursday and Friday, running two Caterham only track days.
The circuit was a popular choice with competitors who enjoyed the challenge of the fast sweeping layout that offers very little margin for error. Sadly there were a few stoppages on Thursday which meant three unlucky racers would not be getting to compete at the weekend. Friday however was an excellent day with only two short stoppages. With a the exception of two short showers on Friday the weather was glorious for both days and the sunset viewed from the beach side restaurants was beautiful.
After Fridays track day we took the short car ride to Schiphol Airport for our flight back to the UK. We then started on our journey along the A55 to Anglesey. This track day was the annual VX220.org.uk meet, where 60 VX220 enthusiasts drive the 1.5 mile Coastal Circuit. The clouds quickly cleared in the morning to produce the perfect Anglesey Summer day where the mountain views are crystal clear. Driving standards were impeccable all day with not a single red flag.
Early Sunday morning we were off to Donington Park to sign-on and brief over 400 drivers and passengers for the track day part of Japfest 2. This was our second car show with Furture Publishing this year and it was amazing to see the Donington Park paddock full of so many people.
It was wonderful to be home on Sunday evening after such a busy and rewarding few days - I even treated myself to a glass of wine!
Simon Young has a BIG moment at the brow of the hill at Zandvoort, the group shot of VX220.org heading towards Rocket and who said Lightning McQueen wasn't real?
